Did you complete a postsecondary teacher education program that allowed you to teach in a publicly funded elementary or secondary school?

Some teacher education programs are completed after earning a postsecondary degree. Other teacher education programs are combined with postsecondary degree coursework.

Was your teacher education program employment-based?

This is paid, on-the-job teacher education that allows you to qualify as a teacher while you work. In most cases, this means you were employed by a school while completing a teacher education program designed to meet certification requirements.

Did you complete a postsecondary degree at an institution that was authorized to grant degrees at the time your degree was awarded?

Your degree must be awarded by an institution that has been given the official authority to grant degrees (for example, a State or government ministry) at the time it is awarded. For example, if your degree was awarded on June 30, 1989, did the institution have the authority to grant it in 1989?

Did your teacher education program prepare you to teach technological education?

A technological education program prepares candidates with a technical background to teach in areas of technology in secondary schools. Some examples include construction, manufacturing, hospitality and tourism, health care and transportation.


B1
Did you complete a postsecondary degree that was at least three years in length beyond the completion of secondary school?

A postsecondary degree awarded after the completion of at least 90 postsecondary credits or their equivalent (at least three years of full time study) beyond high school. To be acceptable, the degree must be considered equivalent to a degree granted by an Ontario postsecondary institution (e.g. a Bachelor’s degree granted by a recognized university which is authorized to grant degrees).

Do you have five years of work experience in business or industry, related to the area of technology in your teacher education program?

You completed a teacher education program that prepared you to teach construction technology. Some examples of work experience related to construction technology include work as an electrician, carpenter, etc.

B2.1
Do you have a combination of postsecondary education and work experience that totals five years?

One example of combined postsecondary education and work experience is: two years of work experience in business or industry, related to the area of technology in your teacher education program plus a three year postsecondary program.

Did your degree include teacher education coursework?

Was it three years of academic coursework and four semesters of teacher education coursework?

The College determines the duration of teacher education coursework based on one academic year of study (the equivalent of two semesters) in a program.

Was your teacher education program at least two semesters in length? (i.e. one year of full-time studies?)

The College determines the duration of teacher education coursework based on one academic year of study (the equivalent of two semesters) in a program.

Did your teacher education program include at least 80 days of supervised practice teaching?

Supervised practice teaching is when a student teacher is on a school placement and teaching students under the supervision of a qualified teacher and teacher education program.

Did your teacher education program include at least 20 days of supervised practice teaching?

Supervised practice teaching is when a student teacher is on a school placement and teaching students under the supervision of a qualified teacher and teacher education program.

Do you have at least one year of teaching experience in an elementary or secondary school in a jurisdiction where you are authorized to teach?

  • Primary and Junior divisions (i.e. kindergarten to Grade 6);
  • Junior and Intermediate divisions (Grades 4 to 10);
  • Intermediate and Senior divisions (Grades 7 to 12).

  • Primary (Kindergarten to Grade 3)
